MySexySaturday - Independence Day - May 21, 2016

May 21, 2016

No spaceships or flights of fancy from me this week. Instead I have a man who has had enough of taking a backseat to his lover’s career ambitions and moves to Las Vegas for a fresh start. For this week’s MySexySaturday http://mysexysaturday.blogspot.ca/ here are seven paragraphs from:

INDEPENDENCE DAY

Blurb:

When Nick Gregorio’s former lover, Al Martinsen, came to Vegas wanting to make up, Nick was prepared to listen. However, for Nick, returning to their hometown to resume playing second fiddle to Al’s ambitions was not an option, and he suggested Al move to Vegas permanently.

Weeks pass with no word from Al, and Nick doesn’t know what to think. Is Al still considering moving to Vegas, or does his silence say it all? Then an old friend from Nick’s hometown comes to work with Nick at The Neapolitan and gives Nick news that sends him reeling with shock, anger and total despair. He knew Al had allowed ambition to dominate his life, but even he found it hard to believe Al would go so far as to commit the ultimate betrayal. There’s no going back for either of them now.

In desperation, Nick looks for temporary oblivion in the form of a night out that turns nasty when he’s beaten and robbed by a gang of teenage male prostitutes. Fortunately for Nick, his new friend and boss, Trip Browning, comes to his aid, and with Trip’s support Nick is able to resume work planning the gala opening of The Neapolitan’s newest restaurant. That is until Trip delivers a surprise of his own and sends Nick’s world spinning in a whole different direction.

^ ^ ^

Nick picked up his glass and stared into the amber depths of his drink. “I’m in one of those classic catch-22 situations. I’m split down the middle between emotion and commonsense. I don’t have a clue which one is right. So, if you have an opinion, let me hear it.”

Trip leaned forward and rested his folded arms on the edge of the bar. “From what you’ve said, there’s no question but what you love the guy. Problem is the relationship no longer works. Sorry, but there’s no way I can see how you going back will fix it. The same conditions still exist that made you leave in the first place.”

“You mean Al’s double life and his refusal to face reality?”

“Exactly. I agree it’s a tough call. But if you can’t talk him into giving it up and moving down here, then you’ll have to accept going back won’t work and let him go.”

Let Al go? As in permanently, forever and for all time?

Nick knew it was something he had to consider, but could he actually go through with it? His moving here to Vegas didn’t count because he’d been sure Al would eventually come after him, and he had. “I don’t want to go back. I really don’t. The thought of looking for a new place to live and then all the hassle of starting up a new business is enough to make me puke. Plus, as you say, the same conditions still exist.”

Just then, Trip turned and captured Nick’s gaze. Suddenly, the air between them felt thick with tension, expectant, and Nick noticed something in Trip’s expression he’d never thought to see. It reminded him of those longing but resigned looks he’d seen on kids’ faces at Christmastime when they checked out stuff in the store windows, knowing their parents couldn’t afford to buy it for them.

Chance Encounter and Strangers In The Night

Reissuing my AQP titles will take time and patience, but today, two more have made a reappearance:

Chance Encounter
By
Christiane France

In high school and through their first year of college, Jase Thoman and Matt Lester were best friends and lovers. Then Matt’s family moved, Matt transferred to another school, and they soon drifted apart.
Ten years later, they meet again by chance. Jase is a private investigator, desperate to find his kid brother who, in addition to two other teenage boys, disappeared after last being seen at a local gay bar. Matt is an undercover police officer, brought in by the local police department in the hope he can succeed where they’ve far failed.
Matt is the only man Jase has ever really loved, but ten years is a long time. They’re not the same people they once were. When Matt tries to pick up where they left off, Jase takes a step back. His first priority is finding his brother. As far as Matt is concerned, Jase feels how he imagines a deer would feel when caught in the headlights of a vehicle with little or no chance of escape—confused, unsure, and at the same time, positive whatever he does will be the wrong thing.

Strangers In The Night

After a disastrous affair with a man he met one night on the beach, an affair that ended with the man’s death, Blaine Tyler is scared to take a chance on someone new for fear of repeating his past mistakes. So scared, he gives up on life completely--until the night he meets another stranger, the handsome and charismatic Adrian Rossi--a man to whom he feels an immediate sexual attraction.

Adrian is the complete opposite of Blaine’s previous lover. He’s caring and unselfish, and he’s just as attracted to Blaine as what Blaine is to him. But can Blaine take a chance and allow a complete stranger to help him get past his fears?

Blues In The Night now back at All Romance

Blues In The Night is again available and with a beautiful new cover courtesy of KC Kendricks.

We've all heard the platitudes--into every life a little rain must fall; every dark cloud has a silver lining; and my all-time favorite, if it was meant to be this wouldn't have happened. What I do believe is that everything happens for a reason, a season, or a lifetime, as Alain is about to find out.

BLUES IN THE NIGHT
By
Christiane France
After a six-month work-related separation, Alain and his partner James planned to meet up for the perfect dream vacation. Then James calls and cancels. He’s met someone new and their relationship is over.
Alain is devastated, and he leaves the hotel in a daze. Evening turns to night and as he walks up one street and down the next, he hears music drifting up from a basement nightclub. The singer sounds like Kenny Dumaine, a man Alain used to know, and he goes in to check.
It takes a moment for Kenny to remember Alain. As an entertainer and always on the move, he’s learned to keep things casual. But Alain’s upset, he’s been drinking, and in no state to be alone. Where’s the harm in offering an old friend a little badly needed TLC? Kenny’s last performance is tomorrow night, and the next day he’ll be gone.

May 7. 2016 - MySexySaturday - And The Cat Came Back

May 7, 2016

No sexy dances in my backlist, but I do have a manipulative feline who believes his master needs company and sets out to provide it. So, for this week’s MySexySaturday http://mysexysaturday.blogspot.ca/ here are seven paragraphs from:

AND THE CAT CAME BACK

By Christiane France

Blurb:

Home renovator Seth Lawley is ready to settle down if the right man comes along, but he’s cautious. He believes he who hesitates saves himself a whole lot of heartbreak.

Grant Kenyon, on the other hand, is ready to take a chance. He figures anyone who hesitates when it comes to grabbing what he wants from life risks losing out.

Foofuss, Grant’s bossy, matchmaking Persian cat, has decided his master needs company and Seth is it...that’s if he can figure out the perfect plan to bring the two of them together.

^ ^ ^
The cat pricked up his ears, gobbled the last bits of kibble in the dish and bolted for the open front door.

I dashed after him, arriving in time to see what I figured was the animal’s owner scooping him up. The early morning sun peeking through the clouds behind the man hid his features and gave him an ethereal quality. For a split second, it was if one of the sea captains from my dreams had come to life…tall, thin, deeply tanned, with sinewy whipcord muscles he’d earned sailing his ship through a vicious winter storm that ripped across the lake, threatening to destroy everything in its path. Or maybe it was a summer storm. The wind had dropped and he’d been stranded out there on the water for weeks, hence the great tan—

“Hah, there you are, you little devil. I’ve been looking everywhere for you,” he chastised, giving the cat a kiss on the head and bringing me back from dreamland.

“He’s your cat?” I inquired, feeling a tiny twinge of disappointment.

“Yup. He sure is.” The man smiled. “I hope he wasn’t making a nuisance of himself.”

“No, he was fine.” The cat licked his chops and gave me a smug look. “I saw him on the steps when I drove past yesterday. He looked so sad, as if he was waiting for someone. He was still here this morning when we arrived, so I figured…”

Warm brown eyes captured my gaze, and I felt that unmistakable “click” of sexual awareness pass between us. “That he was lost and starving? That perhaps the former owners had left him behind?”

^ ^ ^

P.S. The cat on the cover is my 9-year old Persian puss, Domino, who took great pleasure in teaching Foofuss all he knows on the art of how to manipulate people into doing his bidding.

IWSG BLOG – Wednesday, May 4, 2016

IWSG BLOG – Wednesday, May 4, 2016
The Insecure Writer’s Support Group

Most of us procrastinate, and I’m definitely guilty of this. Sure, I’ll have it done by tomorrow. Next day absolute latest. Then life gets in the way, and whatever it is gets shelved for one reason or another. It was a bigger job than I’d anticipated, more complicated, it needed more time than I could spare, and so it keeps getting pushed to the bottom of the list. A year later it’s still there, still giving me those “what-about-me?” looks and still no closer to getting done.

But what if, instead of finding reasons or excuses not to start the job, I’d spared it 10-20 minutes every day? It may still not be completely done, but it’ll be a lot closer to the finish line than it was a year ago.

We all laugh and roll our eyes at schedules and to-do-lists, but they do help in organizing our time more wisely. Just don’t make them too tight or too organized. Make a schedule that works for you and is something you can actually achieve. Be sure to build in slots to cover things you must do, such as appointments and daily living, allow a little time for the unexpected, and cut down on time that achieves no real purpose. I have a bad habit of spending too much time on email and social media. Time that would be better spent on wips that are gathering dust and getting out-of-print books ready to be reissued.

Yesterday. I heard someone say that life is like a coin. You can spend it how and wherever you wish, but you can only spend it once.

The hardest part with making a schedule is getting started. Compile a to-do list, then make a draft schedule for the next 7 days. Once you've done that the rest is comparatively easy--provided you keep to the schedule as best you can and don't beat yourself up if things don't work out quite the way you'd planned.
