THE GOOD AND THE BAD OF 2015

To paraphrase Charles Dickens in the opening lines of A Tale Of Two Cities, 2015 was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Yet when I look back and think of all that happened, I’m surprised to see how much I accomplished with my writing.

The year started off with the release in January of OH, WHAT A KNIGHT (Peninsula Heights series) Griff Walker is homeless, jobless and stranded miles from anywhere when motorist, Shane Walker, stops and offers him a ride, a job and the chance of a whole new life. http://www.amberquill.com/store/p/2110-Oh-What-A-Knight.aspx
Also in the Peninsula Heights series was the release in April of FINDING THE TRUTH - http://www.amberquill.com/store/p/2162-Finding-The-Truth.aspx in which P.I. Marcus D’Angelo continues the case he started at the request of the local police chief in Looking For Answers and finally discovers what’s behind the rumors of extortion and shakedowns that have plagued Little Italy for years.
A paperback collection of the first three Peninsula Heights stories is now available: http://www.amberquill.com/store/p/2250-Peninsula-Heights.aspx.

In April I completed my second year of the A-Z Blog Challenge - http://www.a-to-zchallenge.com. Blogging on a different subject every day except Sundays for the entire month of April is not the easiest thing I’ve done, but the sense of accomplishment when I hit the “send” button on that last post makes it well worth the effort. I also posted something most weeks for MySexySaturday - http://mysexysaturday.blogspot.ca/ which I’ve found to be a great way of finding new friends and promoting my books to a wider audience.

In April my daughter suffered the reoccurrence of a health issue that almost took her life. She says hopefully it won’t happen again. I prefer to think positive and say it won’t.

In May I started a new series, Hennessey Falls. This series revolves around a group of bars, clubs and restaurants, owned by Noah Davidson and the Davidson Restaurant Group, and the employees who work there. The opening story came out in May - THE REPLACEMENT -  http://www.amberquill.com/store/p/2181-The-Replacement.aspx Noah has just lost his lover to kidney failure and is having difficulty in moving on with his life until Gavin Murray applies for the job as the Group’s general manager. Noah’s attracted to Gavin, but he tells himself he’s not ready for someone new, he’s still mourning Brett. If he had any sense he’d turn down Gavin’s application. Instead, he agrees to give Gavin a three-month trial by convincing himself Gavin is his only option and business comes first.
In June, THE GHOST MAKES THREE http://www.amberquill.com/store/p/2199-The-Ghost-Makes-Three.aspx the second book in a series I co-wrote with KC Kendricks was released. Michael Brooks’ life took an unexpected direction when he found the Taylor mansion, a two-story Colonial perfect for a Bed & Breakfast. An untenured college professor, he suddenly became a successful entrepreneur. And best of all, he met sexy deputy Colin Jefferson and they hit it off in a big way. He’s even made friends with the resident ghost. How the ghost came to live in the B&B is a mystery Michael and Colin need to solve. It’s the only way for their resident spirit to find eternal rest. But until then, the ghost makes three...
I joined the IWSG (Insecure Writers Support Group) blog hop in June - http://www.insecurewriterssupportgroup.com/p/iwsg-sign-up.html. The writing life is full of insecurities from worrying about deadlines, to burnout, to convincing yourself you’ll never write another word, to a million other pesky problems both large and small. Just knowing there are other authors out there who experience the same thing, know exactly what you’re going through and are willing to offer their support means more than I can say. It’s comforting to know I’m not all alone, banging my head against a brick wall and crying in the dark for the inspiration that eludes me or the Muse that’s MIA.
The Hennessey Falls series continued in July with NO ONE’S PERFECT (a best seller at All Romance EBooks, btw) -http://www.amberquill.com/store/p/2230-No-One-s-Perfect.aspx Thanks to an ill-timed joke and a thoughtless action, Terry Miller (who had a brief appearance in The Replacement) not only lost his job, he also lost Liam, the man he loved and expected to spend the rest of his life with. A year has passed and Terry knows he should either find it in his heart to forgive Liam for his part in what happened, or forget him and move on. But he can’t forgive and he can’t forget. As far as Terry is concerned, Liam’s the one who owes him the apology.
September and October were two of the hardest months I’ve known. In late September my eldest kitty, Toby Diamond, developed vertigo. I was terrified I would lose my baby, but I should have known better. Toby’s a fighter. He still has the head tilt and his balance is tricky, but otherwise he’s fine. But then two weeks later, at around 5:45a.m. on October 13, the phone rang. It was a nurse at the hospital to say my husband had taken a turn for the worse and to come immediately. He was actually gone when she called, but they don’t tell you that. He’d finally lost his battle with congestive heart failure and passed away in his sleep. We met as teenagers and were together a long time. He was my honey, my lover, and my best friend. I miss him terribly, but his strength was gone to the point where he kept falling and could no longer stand by himself. Family and friends have helped enormously, but this is something that takes time to accept even though I know he’s now in a much better place—he’s on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge with three of his brothers, his parents and mine, my sister, and the furkids we’ve lost over the years. I know for sure he won’t be lonely. I can hear them all now, trying to outshout one another in an effort to catch up on all the news.
As you can imagine, the rest of 2015 has passed in something of a blur. But in November STILL MISSING http://www.amberquill.com/store/p/2286-Still-Missing.aspx made an appearance. This is part of the Amethyst Cove series and the sequel to Missing, But Not Dead. - Ever since Greg Stewartson, ex-cop, private investigator, and half-owner of Amethyst Cove Security & Investigations, first met Ash Tyler, a handsome and very sexy nurse, he’s been trying to find Ash’s biological family—the one Ash says he had before he was taken into care and adopted by the Tylers more than twenty years ago. Greg and Ash are now a couple. Greg’s leads have all turned into dead ends, so Ash told him to let it go. Then one night a half-drowned man is brought into the urgent care clinic where Ash works. He says he’s looking for Jack Smith, the man Ash knew as grandpa. Suddenly Greg is up to his ears in new information and new leads. Will he finally get Ash the answers he so desperately wants or is he being conned by a pair of clever hustlers determined to conceal the truth?
Chocolate Mix at Literary Nymphs gave STILL MISSING a 4-nymphs review.

The above books are also available at: ARE (www.allromanceebooks.com), Amazon Kindle, Barnes and Noble, and Kobo.

Only time will tell what 2016 holds for me. THE GHOST GETS EVEN, the third and final, at least for now, story in the series I co-wrote with KC Kendricks is due out in the early part of the year. And I have several stories in progress, including the follow-up to STILL MISSING and a couple more additions to the Hennessey Falls series.

All that’s left now is for me to wish everyone, family, friends, fans, readers, fellow authors and bloggers the very best of everything for the New Year. I hope we all have the health to enjoy the good, find the courage to deal with the bad, and to remember that whatever happens life still goes on.

Happy New Year and Blessings to us all.

Christiane

MySexySaturday - A HAPPY CHRISTMAS ENDING

December 19, 2015:

For this week’s edition of MySexySaturday http://mysexysaturday.blogspot.ca/ I have seven sentences from A HAPPY CHRISTMAS ENDING—an erotic contemporary m/m romance.

A HAPPY CHRISTMAS ENDING
by Christiane France

This is the sequel to the Amber Allure best-seller Raindrops And Roses...

Blurb:
When Drew and Michael first met, they spent every minute of their free time together, making love, dreaming, planning and generally behaving like they lived on their own private planet. Now, almost three months later, they’re still together, but only just. Michael’s been gradually distancing himself from Drew and he’s not returning Drew’s calls. They’re supposed to be spending Christmas with Michael’s family, so Drew forces a meeting. If Michael has met someone else, he wants to know, and he wants to know now.
Will the holiday turn into a disaster, or will the men have a happy Christmas ending?

Excerpt:
“What is it? I thought we weren’t doing the gifts until tomorrow.”
“We’re not. This is just between you and me. Something private and special. Open it.”
I did as instructed and inside the box, nestled on a bed of white tissue was a gold name bracelet with the inscription “Michael+Drew=Forever”.

Jingle Bells

The Weather Channel was playing Christmas carols today and when Jingle Bells came on it reminded me of a trip my late husband and I took to Spain some years ago.

We were staying at a hotel in Torremolinos and one of the side trips being offered was a barbeque at a farm up in the hills. The passengers on our bus were a very international group--Canadian, British, German, Spanish, American, Italian, etc. On the way back, replete with BBQ and wine, one of them tried to initiate a singsong. Whichever song he tried there were never more than a couple of others who knew the words. Then he hit on Jingle Bells and the whole bus erupted into song.

Everyone on that rickety old bus knew the words, including the driver. I'll never forget speeding back down that narrow country road on a warm September night, hitting every pothole on the way with spine-jarring accuracy, with all the passengers singing Jingle Bells at the top of their voices.

Happy Holidays everyone. May your Christmas be merry and bright, and may 2016 be the best year ever.

Christiane

MySexySaturday - CIAO, CIAO BAMBINA

December 12, 2015:

For this week’s edition of MySexySaturday http://mysexysaturday.blogspot.ca/ I have seven paragraphs from CIAO, CIAO BAMBINA—an erotic contemporary m/f romance in which childhood sweethearts meet again unexpectedly.

CIAO, CIAO BAMBINA
by Christiane France

http://www.amberquill.com/store/p/565-Ciao-Ciao-Bambina.aspx

Blurb:

Turning failing companies into winners doesn’t leave Dani Stevens with a lot of time for herself. It certainly doesn’t allow her time to find a man with whom she can indulge her sexual fantasies.

But then Dani goes to Las Vegas on business and is recognized by a man she hasn’t seen since they were both kids. Twenty years ago, Roberto Ventura was Dani’s first love, and she was his, and they were both devastated when circumstances forced them to part.

Can a teenage crush survive a twenty-year separation? Especially now when Roberto is Vegas’ latest heartthrob, a handsome, sexy, Italian singer who can have any woman he wants?

Excerpt:
The sound of Roberto’s voice sent Dani’s temperature soaring and her feelings of guilt into overdrive. She tried to get a grip on her composure. So what if she was watching a dirty movie? She wasn’t hurting anyone, and she wasn’t doing anything wrong. And Roberto couldn’t possibly know what she had been doing. He couldn’t see her red face, or the rumpled bed, or what the couple were doing on TV, even so… She ran a shaky hand over her hair and nervously twisted a dark, silky strand around her forefinger. “Hi. This is a surprise,” she said in a weak voice she barely recognized as her own.

Leaning back against the pillows, she pressed the ‘mute’ button on the remote. The couple were in the shower now, and the man was down on his knees, gently tugging the woman’s knees apart—
          “What are you doing?”

The man succeeded in parting the woman’s legs, and Dani felt herself getting wet again. “Doing? Me? Nothing. Why?” As the man began to tease the woman with his tongue, Dani’s fingers started to creep under the edge of her panties. She quickly pulled them out and used them to smooth the rumpled sheet instead.
“I was supposed to go over some new material today, but a couple of the people who were supposed to be there can’t make it, so rehearsals been cancelled. So, I was wondering…”

The man’s tongue was delving deeper now, and the woman’s hands were locked in his hair. Dani’s fingers forgot about smoothing the sheet and took off down her belly with another goal in mind. But before it could get them both into trouble, she snatched it back and carefully scrutinized her nails. “Wondering what?”
“I was wondering if you’d like to have lunch with me?”

IWSG Blog Hop - December 2, 2015

Christmas is special to me because my parents were married on Christmas Eve. They're both gone now, but around 10p.m. every December 24th, I open a window and listen. The stores are closed, the shoppers have gone home, the streets are empty, and there's nothing to hear but a wonderful silence. That's when my mind drifts back to the village church in England where the ceremony took place and I try to imagine what it must have been like...

The church is lit by candles and decorated with holly, ivy and pine branches. My Dad has on his best navy blue suit, and he's waiting near the altar while the choir sings It Came Upon A Midnight Clear. Then there's my mom, walking up the aisle, wearing a knee-length cream satin dress, a matching veil, pale yellow satin shoes and a bouquet of miniature bronze chrysanthemums. Not like the extravagant weddings of today, just a simple ceremony for two people who loved one another so much.

St. Mary-le-Moor, Cadmore End, Bucks

Happy Christmas, Happy Holidays, and  all the best for a wonderful 2016.
